Journey to Haridwar

Most awaited trip …. a journey to Gateway of heaven.

30 Jan 2016
12:04 AM – We take taxi to railway station.
3:10 AM – In train….
12:12 PM – Checked In Hotel Kailash, Haridwar
We started off on the Night of Jan 29 at about 01:10 from our place and boarded the Dehradun Doon Express from Lucknow Jn. Railway Station. The train leaves from platform 7 at about 01:50 hrs.
The train left us at Haridwar station 15 minutes later than its scheduled arrival time. We headed to Hotel Kailash and booked a room for both of us.
If you are looking to stay closer to the Ghats, do not expect 5 star facilities. Feel lucky if you can manage to get clean sheets and mattresses on the beds and a clean washroom. There might be no room service available and as in many cases, no restaurants or kitchens to order food from which means that you stay at one place and move out in the evenings to grab food elsewhere.
However, if you can dare to walk a bit, there are a few above average places to dine around ‘Jagannath Dham’. Don’t bother asking for directions, just take a cycle – rickshaw from anywhere you are and tell the rickshaw puller to drop you ar ‘Jagannath Dham’.

Journey to Nainital

Lucknow to Haldwani (9 hours)

If you are traveling from Lucknow to Nainital, probably the best and the most comfortable way to travel is to take the overnight Semi Deluxe Bus/Deluxe (Depending on your traveling budget) from Kaisarbagh Bus Station to reach Haldwani, the nearest bus station to Nainital, which is what we did.

Haldwani to Nainital (1 hour)

Option 1(Taxi): One can easily get a taxi from Haldwani station itself. You can negotiate anything between 300 – 400/- to have the taxi drop you at the Nainital Mall road. An extra tip of 20 – 50/- shall ensure that the Taxi stays with you till you look for a place to stay, that is if you have not made prior reservations.

Option 2(Min-Bus): There is mini buses available for Haldwani to Nainital and you can save much amount by choosing Mini-Bus.

After passing 3 kilometers, You will start enjoying the hill area. If you are traveling first time to hill-station, you can’t close your eyes for a second.

It will take one hour to reach Nainital.

Mall Road

There are plenty of decent hotel right on the Mall road facing the Naini lake and after having looked into nearly half a dozen places, we finally settled into one which was upside of the lake.

As you go upside hotel prices will go lower.

Prices may vary in weekends.

Boating in the Lake

The boat rides are cheap and one only needs to shell about 150/- for an hour for a paddle boat. This includes the rent of the life jackets that are provided. However, I am not sure about the quality of the material used therein and won’t vouch for their life saving capabilities either.

Hiring a Taxi

Fares are totally depends on your negotiation skills. We hired a taxi for local view points in 1200/-

Awesome views from the High Attitude zoo of Nainital. There is rope-way to Zoo and Taxi to Zoo. You can also go by walking towards the zoo. If you are not an active personality use Taxi or rope-way. Because you don’t want to exhaust in the first day of your trip.
